Hopefully after reading this, you’ll see there’s more to him than just banging drums really really hard. “I don’t really know much about life or people, but from myself I know that you should just get on with life and stop having to worry about things and thinking about the future and past. Meet The Band – Stevie Hunter

Posted on April 23rd, 2014 in Biographies

Ever wondered who the guy was that was playing the guitar and singing backing vocals? Well we thought we tell you a little more about Stephen Hunter. Read what he had to say for himself, then check out his answers to the ‘quick-fire question’ round.

“I play an Epiphone Dot (Cherry Red) and an Electro-Acoustic Ibanez Performance PF10.
If you ever got a hold of my iPod, once you get past the four-digit code you’ll see
it’s full of some of the greatest music you’ll ever hear. Ranging from Small Faces to The
Seahorses, every songs a “tune”.

“I think if you’re in a band you need to look cool as fuck. I want to look like I’m in a band.
Parkas, Polos, Chelseas etc. Anything that’ll make people ask “Here you! You in a band?” to which I’d reply “Aye mate, Soldier On.”

“Ever since I discovered Oasis all I’ve wanted to do is to be in a band, just to do what they do. And with my Dad being a musician too, this made it a whole lot easier.

“There were always guitars in the house and after a long time of messing around with them I decided to take it more serious – and here’s where I’ve ended up!”

Loves – Manchester United.
Hates – Tinned fruit.

The Man With More Trainers Than Boxers: Ben Prescott

Posted on February 6th, 2014 in Biographies

So far you’re learnt about Jordan and Liam. Now its the turn of our guitarist, Ben Prescott! You’re about to learn all about the man with a keen eye for fashion, and an even keener ear for good music.

“I’m a crisp and Fred Perry enthusiast, with more pairs of trainers than underwear! One of my biggest loves in the world is Manchester United. But to be honest I’m a huge fan of football in general, not just the Red Devils.

“I’m a bit of a complex guy. I’m pretty laid back but at the same time, can be rather short tempered – so don’t p*ss me off! Ha! Despite my sometimes short fuse, I’d still say I’m the tame one of the group. We’ve a few characters here!

“I’ve always loved music – from a young age I always had the desire to play the guitar. Since the days of myself and Stevie doing covers while we were still at school I’ve always wanted to be in a band. Now it’s actually happening its a bit surreal, but brilliant, and only going to get bigger and better!”

Quick-fire Questions

1.What is your role in the band?
Guitarist.

2. What is your most memorable gig?
I think it would be playing The Clubhouse in Irvine, it was absolutely mobbed with all of our
mates and everyone was just having a good time.

3. What would be your ideal gig?
Being the last band on at a big festival. To have a massive field of people singing and
jumping to our songs would be (to quote my mate Kris) unbelievable Jeff!

4. What is your favourite kind of music?
Good old fashioned Rock’n’roll

5. What band/artist has most inspired you?
Oasis /Noel Gallagher

6. If you were asked to describe each member of the band in just one word, which words
would you choose?

Jordan – Flamboyant
Ross – Fidget
Liam – Pint
Stephen – Comedian

Liam Lambert: The Bassist With The Best Scarves

Posted on December 19th, 2013 in Biographies

Our last band member bio focused on lead singer, Jordan. But we thought he already gets enough attention so decided to post our second bio, this time featuring bassist Liam Lambert.

We’ll learn about his thoughts on music and about what his dream gig would be – there’s more to Liam than just a crackin’ scarf!

When discussing his musical tastes and how he sees himself, the Soldier On bassist believes he’s a man who oozes individuality and really knows his stuff when it comes to music. Good music that is!

“I have a dislike for most people that don’t dare to be different. I like to think I have good musical knowledge and understanding. I’m also a patter merchant. Love a good piece of cloth too.”

There’s not a Soldier On gig you’ll go to where Liam isn’t busy plucking away (that’s plucking with a PL) while modelling one of his many psychedelic neck scarves. They really are a sight to behold.

Now, in the style of NME’s interviews, here are Liam’s answers to his quick-fire questions.

Quick-fire Questions

1. What is your role in the band?
Bassist, brains, dad, etc.

2. What is your most memorable gig?
There has been a few now, recently though, turning on Ayr’s Christmas lights was an         experience. There were thousands of people there and we were that loud we set fire           alarms off in the cabins behind the stage,

3. What would be your ideal gig?
The next Soldier On gig.

4. What is your favourite type of music?
Anything with some soul and a decent beat.

5. What band/artist has most inspired you?
The Beatles mostly.

6. If you were asked to describe each member of the band in just one word, which words
would you choose?

-Jordan: Partridge
-Stephen: Shaith
-Ben: Hmm? (In the style of Audrey Roberts)
-Ross: Sarah

So, now you know the man behind the scarf.

Jordan Bastock: The Man Behind Those Hips

Posted on November 11th, 2013 in Biographies

We thought it was about time, plus it’s a great idea, to write a blog about each band member to let you all get to know us a bit better.

And since I’m the lead singer, euphoric dance enthusiast, and the proud owner of a pair of snake hips, it’s only natural to start with me.

Taking inspiration from NME interviews, we all did a quick-fire Q&A for you, as well as writing a couple of short paragraphs about ourselves.

So first off, allow me to say that I’m actually really good at writing about myself. I’ve always got something to say and an opinion on most things. I’ve always wanted to play in a band, apart from being a Power Ranger, of course, I mean what five year old doesn’t want to be a Power Ranger?!

As well as the Power Rangers, I also love everything about the sixties, especially the music. It’s a time I wish I’d be a part of.

Finally, I owe it all to my parents for becoming a musician.

Quick-fire Questions:

1. What is your role in the band?

   The Frontman.

2. What is your most memorable gig?

Broadcast in Glasgow purely because a lot of the fans stayed and we had a drink

upstairs. Plus the DJ was playing a lot of Northern Soul.

3. What would be your ideal gig?

The Barrowlands in Glasgow supporting The Kinks.

4. What is your favourite type of music?

Rock n Roll, Rhythm & Blues.

5. What band/artist has most inspired you?

Mick Jagger. I have never seen anyone make me want to dance more in my life.

6. If you were asked to describe each member of the band in just one word, which

    words would you choose?

- Stephen: Dormant.
- Ben: Gambler
- Liam: Witty
- Ross: Jack Russell

Keep an eye out for our next band member bio, which we’ll be uploading soon.

In the meantime, you can keep up to date with what we’re up to and our upcoming gigs on our website; or through Facebook and Twitter. Also, you can hear some of our music on Soundcloud and our YouTube channel.
